3. “Make Your Calling & Election Sure” • 2nd Peter 1:5-11
We have been given eternal life and called to use that life in God’s service. When we walk by faith and live in charity toward one another then we are more assured of our part in the covenant of grace. And not only this, we find ourselves walking actively in the kingdom of Jesus Christ/

4. “Peter’s Retirement Plan” • 2nd Peter 1:12-15
The preaching of the gospel is not like a regular job and should not be viewed as such. Part of the calling to preach is an understanding that it is a life-long pursuit and servitude. Peter understood this and not only never stopped preaching, he wrote two epistles so that the gospel he loved and taught would continue long after his martyrdom.

5. “A More Sure Word of Prophecy” • 2nd Peter 1:16-21
The Bible is not a bunch of man-made stories and myths. It is a collection of writings by men who were spoken to by God. God told them what to write and they faithfully carried out that duty. Peter argues that what he and the other Apostles teach is true because God spoke to them on the Mount of Transfiguration. Peter uses this as proof of his authority to speak but also argues that he, and we, have a more sure word to guide us. That is because everything in the Old Testament points toward Christ, and everything in the New Testament shows that Jesus is God’s Son and our victorious Savior.

6. “Beware of False Teachers” • 2nd Peter 2:1-3
Just as there were false prophets speaking at the same time as God’s true prophets in the time of the Old Testament, there are many false teachers parading around today claiming to speak the word of God but are actually speaking heresy and doctrines of devils.
Peter devotes this entire chapter to commenting on the same subject our Savior spoke on in Matthew, Chapter 7. Those that are fooled by false teachers follow the broad way and bring destruction in their lives. Peter reminds us of the dangers of false teachers, and to focus on making our calling election sure by keeping the Bible as our only rule of faith and practice.

7. “The Lord Knoweth How” • 2nd Peter 2:4-9
The second chapter of this epistle is a warning to beware of false prophets. Very often people will look at this portion of scripture and decide its their job to decide who is a child of God and who is not. That is not Peter’s purpose. In fact, Peter shows that only God knows how to judge the ungodly and deliver the righteous.
